Christian Service

CHRISTIAN SERVICE

One of the primary goals of St. Mary Catholic High School is to prepare our students for a lifetime of service to the community, the Church, the school, and the Lord. In this light, students in grades 9-12 are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of Christian Service each year of their four years of high school. Students who complete a minimum of 40 hours of Christian Service each year of their four years of high school will receive an “Outstanding Volunteer” Award at graduation exercises. These service hours are to be completed during the school calendar year—from the time the previous school year ends in May/June until the last day of school for the current year.

Service hours should be submitted to the central office within one week of the service activity being completed. The central office will record and track hours and will make the number of hours completed available in Infinite Campus. Service hours are to be completed at the discretion of the student (provided they meet the below guidelines) and under the supervision of the individual or organization offering the service hours.

The only required service activity for the year is help on the day of the St. Mary Carnival & Auction. St. Mary students are required to complete 2 hours of Christian Service at the annual Carnival & Auction. Students who do not complete these hours must complete 2 hours of service to the school through other means at the discretion of the school principal.

Guidelines for service activity:

·       Student may not receive payment for performing the activity.

·       Student may not record service hours for acts for family.

·       Service activities must benefit one of the following groups:

o   Church

o   School

o   Elderly

o   Disadvantaged

o   Youth

o   Community Programming/Outreach

BEGINNING 2024-2025: Students will be required to complete 10 hours towards their Church or School, of which at least 5 must be for the Church. Students who complete a total of 100 hours towards Church or School during their high school career will receive an additional recognition at graduation.
